Black-and-white portrait of Anna Bekmansurova

Anna Bekmansurova is a painter and visual artist. Her paintings are often built through textured brushstrokes and loose washes, creating layers so thin and fragile that they feel fleeting, as if they are about to disappear. This sense of fragility is not only in the layers, but also in the painting and the subject itself, like empty interiors, atmospheric landscapes, deserted streets and familiar places frozen in time. Her paintings focus on atmosphere and convey a certain beauty in melancholy and nostalgia. The work incorporates elements of late nineteenth-century Romanticism, viewed through a contemporary and personal lens. Often working on a small scale, she draws inspiration from archival photographs, film imagery, literature and her own analogue photography.

Born in Russia and based in Ireland since 2021, Anna Bekmansurova graduated with a BA (Hons) in Art in 2025 and was longlisted for the 2025 RDS Visual Art Awards. She completed a Professional Diploma in Art and Design Research at NCAD in 2025–2026 and is currently studying for an MFA in Fine Art (Painting) at NCAD, Dublin (2026–2027). In 2026 her work was selected for the 196th RHA Annual Exhibition, where her painting “The Earth Remembers Veins of Ore” was exhibited and sold.
